The dirty little secret of all designers is that they copy the work of other designers. They see something they like to do and imitate it. Shamelessly they call it inspiration.
You may think that drawing well and using color well are important, but having an eye for good shapes and colors comes first, and to create a design with a good shape, you need a good eye rather than a skilled hand.
Design can also be aesthetic. The design is so simple that it's so complicated.
But design is about making very complex designs simple.
